I've not posted anything about the Xbox One or the PS4 since the Xbox One reveal, mostly because there hasn't been much to talk about, just rumours and speculation, but also because there has been so many people being extremely negative about the whole thing without any real facts.
Personally I was very positive about the new Xbox and as an existing Xbox user, I was pleased to see Microsoft reveal the console and far more detail than Sony had. Games were never going to be a major feature with E3 just around the corner but the level of abusive comments I read following the event was astounding.
Of course, the focus on TV, sports and Call of Duty Ghosts did provide some amusing 'highlight' videos:
So, with E3 about to begin, we still have very little information on the PS4. We have some of the specifications and we know what the controller looks like (complete with it's 'share' button). Meanwhile, we know what the Xbox One looks like, we've got a few details on it's specifications, the new controller and the Kinect 2.0. Now, thanks to a recent post, we now have far more information on the Xbox One's online requirements and how it'll handle pre-owned games. If you are signed into your own console, the Xbox One will need to get online and check-in with Microsoft once every 24 hours, or if you are on a friend's console it'll be once an hour. After this time, if it hasn't been able to check-in, you won't be able to play any games in offline mode. This appears to be the 'feature' that has upset people the most. There are benefits to this licensed approach, however, in that you can play any of your games on a friends console just by logging on with your account... or, in fact, any of your 'family' accounts (of which you can have 10) which will also have access to all of your games. Microsoft have also stated that games can be traded in at participating retailers and they will not charge a fee for transferring the license for the game... although they have left the door open for other developers to charge one should they wish to. You can even give your games away... but only to a 'friend' that has been on your friends list for at least 30 days, and only the once.
You'll find all of the details in Major Nelson's post on the subject here: http://majornelson.com/2013/06/06/details-on-xbox-one-connectivity-licensing-and-privacy-features/
So, in my mind at least, there is no clear leader. Microsoft have revealed a lot of detail but until Sony do the same it's impossible to really tell who's out in front... hopefully next week will give us a better insight into the future of console gaming.
