Not long now...

Just a little over 24 hours to go before Microsoft reveal their "vision" for the next generation of the Xbox.  Personally I'm quite excited and rather apprehensive about the whole thing.  Excited because it's a new console and it can't be worse than the PS4 reveal... apprehensive because, well, what if it is worse than the PS4 reveal?!

I don't think I've seen anything that actually confirms that we will see the new Xbox or get any real hard facts about it's release, so there is a chance that Microsoft may do something similar to Sony.... I just hope that's not the case.

There have been a lot of rumours about the new Xbox floating around and it's impossible to know what is real and what is not... but that doesn't stop me having a bit of speculation about what we'll find out!

Firstly, while it might require some online activation, I suspect that it'll probably not be 'always-on'.  Also, while there have been some suggestions of backward compatibility with the 360 (which I would love), I would be plesantly surprised if that were the case.  In all likelyhood, it'll have a BluRay drive for optical media and games will require installation before play, although it'll probably allow you to start playing before it's fully installed (like the PS4 claims it'll do).  Given their recent statistics on the majority of people using their Xbox for media, rather than games, expect an emphasis on streaming movies, TV etc...

One area I suspect Microsoft may do a little better on is the exclusive game announcement... I wouldn't be surprised by talk of a new Halo, a Forza and a few others appearing.

Either way... we'll find out soon!
