The Electronic Entertainment Expo is over for another year, and while the lights and noise may have seemed the same as last year the news filtering out of the show seemed to suggest it was significantly quieter than previous shows, at least from the 'Big Three'; Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo.  That's not to say there weren't some great looking titles on show...

Microsoft mostly stuck to tried and tested titles, announcing a number of sequels: Halo 4, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Gears of War: Judgement, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 to name the 'highlights', as well as showing a little more of Tomb Raider, and Resident Evil 6.  The only real surprise announcement was their new Xbox SmartGlass app that'll allow your smart phone or tablet interact with your Xbox.  An interesting idea, and one that Apple and Nintendo appear to be moving forward with as well, although it was good to see that Microsoft's answer appears to be designed to work with Android and iOS as well as Windows... good news for those of us that already have some form of tablet.

Nintendo's main focus was the WiiU with more details on how it'll work and the games we're likely to see for it.  With the significant (but yet, unspecific) upgrade in power, it was obvious that the big N are hoping to drag the more hardcore gamers away from the other consoles.  A number of the previewed titles certainly had a more mature edge to them, a far departure from the 'child friendly' Nintendo of old.  ZombiU, in particular, was quite a surprise and gave quite a good example of how the second screen could be used.

Sony certainly had a strong opening with the announcement and impressive trailer for Beyond: Two Souls, from the team that were responsible for Heavy Rain, Quantic Dream.  This was followed by Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, their answer to the popular Super Smash Bros.  There didn't appear to be a huge amount of love for PS Vita owners although Assassin's Creed III Liberation was being shown and there was confirmation that Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified was on the way (as well as mentioning a few other titles in passing).  There were a number of other titles talked about, including God of War: Ascension, as well as the rather odd announcement of 'Wonderbook' that uses the Playstation Eye and Augmented Reality to give stories an interactive element, although the highlight was definitely the gameplay video of The Last of Us (below).

There were certainly some great titles on show, and Ubisoft certainly had their fair share with new information and videos of Assassin's Creed IIIFar Cry 3 as well as the new Splinter Cell: Blacklist and ZombiU mentioned earlier... but by far and away, the one that got most people's attention was the announcement of Watch_Dogs.  Words won't do it justice so just watch the video below.

Awesome huh?

Another surprise was the new Star Wars game. Star Wars 1313, named after Level 1313, a ruthless criminal underground deep below the surface of Coruscant, where you play a Bounty Hunter... that's right, no Jedi powers for you!  So far it's looking pretty impressive and might be just what the Star Wars franchise needs.

So there is certainly some awesome games to look forward to.  I'll leave you with a couple more videos:
