dEAth of the Sims (on Facebook, at least)

Not content with upseting the players of SimCity 'proper' by introducing loads of unwanted and mostly useless social features, EA have followed up with the announcement that their actual social game, SimCity Social, will be "retired" on June 14th.

The official message, posted to the forums reads:

"The Sims Social is shutting down on June 14th.

We want to inform everyone in our community that as of June 14th, The Sims Social will be retiring on Facebook.

We know that you may be disappointed by this. Retiring games is never easy, we hope you've enjoyed playing The Sims Social as much as we enjoyed making it. Thank you to all of our passionate and dedicated players for supporting The Sims Social. We hope to see you in some of our other titles on Facebook and other platforms."

This was obviously met with a lot of unhappy customers who have spent many hours, and real money, in building their cities.

This isn't the only title closing, however, both Pet Society and The Sims Social are also shutting shop... leaving next to nothing in the Playfish catalogue.

EA's suggestion to players of those games? Given the redundacies last week, which were rumoured to be from one of EA's mobile studios at EA Motreal, it probably doesn't come as much of a surprise to some.

"EA offers a variety of other fun and free games for you to try. As valued players, we plan on offering you something to show our appreciation. Over the next few days, keep an eye on this post where we’ll announce a special offer to thank you for playing our game."

Until they decide to close them as well...
