Cast your mind back.... waaaay back... no, further than that (I'm talking about June, 2012)... and you might just recall that a successful Kickstarter campaign saw Carmageddon's return get an initial release date of February 2013.
That date came and went, mobile versions of the original Carmageddon appeared; a rather broken and buggy part-made 'Early Access' version of the game surfaced; Stainless Games seemed to be celebrating a fair bit and some pretty fancy cars appeared to be parked up behind their offices (I'm not a stalker... just regularly in the area and it's difficult to ignore the personalised number plates...).
Those of us that were backers were starting to get a little concerned that this game would never reach full release. Then, with the last major update, suddenly there was actually a game there with multiplayer and everything!
Now, after nearly five years, Carmagedon Reincarnation has an actual release date: the 23rd of April, 2015. Yay!
The final release includes:
Career Mode: spanning 16 "Chapters", each comprising 3 or 4 Events. That's 50 events to complete!
Multiplayer: Up to 8 Players, LAN or online
A variety of twisted Event Types:
Classic Carmageddon
Car Crusher
Fox 'n' Hounds
Ped Chase
Death Race
Checkpoint Stampede
Vehicles: 24 (25 for Kickstarter Backers who get their very own "Special Edition" Red Eagle)
PowerUps: Over 80 crazy PUps
Pedestrians: A host of vulnerable ped variants for you to pulverise
Maps: Nine of them, comprising vast open-world environments and MP arenas
36 Race Routes
A massive mix of Stats, Challenges and Achievements to complete and collect
"Smelly Bush" in-game collectibles
There is even a handy video to celebrate the announcement, enjoy:
