Gamescom has kicked off this year with the multiplayer reveal of Call of Duty Advanced Warfare.
If you've missed the details on the next entry into the Call of Duty series, they have moved into the future with soldiers now equiped with exo-skeletons that give you enhancements like increased speed or make you invisible.
The video is suitably... Call of Duty: Lots of fast movement, twitchy combat and one-shot kills... so if you don't enjoy the current games, you're unlikely to be swayed by the slightly shinier graphics or the futuristic setting.
While it doesn't appear to do anything new for the FPS genre, they have certainly borrowed a few of the more popular ideas from other games: Adding more vertical movement and futuristic weapons and abilities along with similar one-shot perk additions like Burn Cards from Titanfall and supply drops (i.e. Battlepacks) with random items and boosts plus the odd map with environmental elements from Battlefield 4. This is still very Call of Duty though, so maybe these additions will inject something fresh into the series.
There does appear to be a fair amount of "cosmetic" customisation available, as well as the usual perks and weapons, which is good. Here are a few examples and a supply drop taken from the video:
Although it is due for release on the 4th of November, you can get a 24 hour head start with double XP and a couple of custom weapons (AK-12G Assualt Rifle and Crossbow-B2).
Activision and Sledgehammer also claim to be providing a "New Era" of collector's editions... which look very like all previous collectors editions (additional map, in-game extras etc...) so let's hope this isn't an example of how different this will be from previous Call of Duty titles.
Expect a number of expensive map packs with a small selection of maps to follow...
