It turns out that the recently leaked artwork for Assassin's Creed IV were, in fact, genuine, and the next title will be 'Black Flag'.
Along with confirmation of the title, Ubisoft have said that more details will be revealed on the 5th of March, 5pm (UK time).
It appears that PC, Xbox 360, PS3 and the Wii U will be seeing this new outing with the PS3 getting an extra 60 minutes of exclusive content. No word on the other (real?) 'next gen' consoles yet.
Judging by the artwork released by Ubisoft this morning, it would also appear that the rumours of a pirate setting are also true.
Let's hope they spend a little longer squashing bugs on this one...
UPDATE: Seems Gaming Everything stumbled upon a countdown page confirming that Assassin's Creed 4 will be coming to next-gen console and even revealing a release date: 29th October. Nice job!
[UPDATE 2] The trailer, along with more details has now been released. You'll be playing as Edward Kenway and spending your time sailing round the open waters of the Caribbean (and under them, it would seem). It'll be interesting to see how the sneaking and stabbing fit into this life of piracy.
Personally I'm still holding out for an Assassin's Creed game set in 15th Century Japan (a 'good' time for Shinobi/Ninja) or maybe London around the 1850's (Connor's half-brother perhaps). We'll see.
