Dear Ubisoft,
Congratulations on Watch Dogs becoming the best-selling new IP in the UK ever (source: MCVUK). Quite an incredible feat.
However, when you get a moment, perhaps you could stop and think about that achievement. Think about all the pre-orders and day one sales. All those people put faith in your vision; they believed in you, enough to place their hard-earned cash, and their hearts, in your care.
And yet you chose to punish those people?
Please don't misunderstand, I love Watch Dogs; I even rather like UPlay (partcularly the Actions and Rewards). I can even appreciate the need to use it for the multiplayer component of Watch Dogs... that makes perfect sense. But it clearly should have been optional.
Any form of 'Always On' DRM is only ever a problem for legitimate customers and fans. The pirates will always find a way round your protection and those people that choose to take the risk and download their versions often get a smoother experience (and often before the street date); Watch Dogs was no exception.
I'm not suggesting that you should give up the fight against piracy, but there are other ways. You already reward people who use UPlay with little extras so why not expand that? I'm sure things like free DLC (not shuttered content) and other extras, not to mention the multiplayer content, will tempt plenty of people to sign on?
Surely the experience has to be better for those people that support you? Being online should always be optional!
Just something I needed to say...
